Arthur O. Martinez was sworn in Thursday as the first manager of the U.S. Postal Service’s new Alhambra General Mail Facility, which is capable of processing about 3.7 million pieces of mail a day.
The 426,000-square-foot mail processing and retail facility, at 15421 Gale Ave., opened Oct. 22.
Martinez also is sectional center manager/postmaster of the Postal Service’s Alhambra Management Sectional Center, which serves ZIP codes beginning with 917 and 918 from a 375-square-mile area stretching from Alhambra to Ontario.
The General Mail Facility’s state-of-the-art equipment can process up to 30,000 letters per hour, said Martinez, formerly a director of marketing and communications for the Postal Service in Van Nuys.
