WESTMINSTER — Ken Scott’s 37-yard field goal with 5 minutes 23 seconds left gave Westminster High School a 22-20 victory over Fountain Valley in a Sunset League football game Friday night at Westminster.
Jason Wells intercepted a Ryan Bertoni pass with 1:42 left, and Christian Moore’s interception of a deperation pass by Bertoni with 10 seconds left sealed the victory for Westminster (4-4-1, 3-1-1 in league).
Fountain Valley (0-9, 0-5) led, 20-19, at the end of the third quarter.
Fountain Valley took the lead with 3:51 left in the quarter when running back Marcos Diaz took a pitch from Bertoni and threw 51 yards to Todd Gordon for a touchdown. Bertoni’s two-point conversion pass fell incomplete.
Fountain Valley got the ball back on downs at its 26-yard line with 32 seconds left in the third quarter and had a chance to pad its lead. The Barons marched down to the 10, but a penalty and 13-yard sack of Bertoni stopped the drive.
Westminster took over at its 21, and drove downfield for Scott’s winning field goal.
