Supermarket Buyout Completed: Buttrey Food & Drug Co. was acquired for $184 million by an investor group including management and the Los Angeles-based merchant banking firm Freeman Spogli & Co. The seller was American Stores Co. of Salt Lake City. The Buttrey chain operates a total of 44 stores in Washington, Wyoming, North Dakota, Idaho, Utah and Montana. Buttrey, based in Great Falls, Mont., employs 4,500 workers and posted sales of $475.9 million in its last fiscal year.
