A Los Angeles police officer shot at a charging dog but hit a fellow officer who escaped serious injury this morning because he had a bulletproof vest, authorities said.
Officer Adam Greenburg, 26, suffered a minor wound where the bullet hit the vest covering his lower back, said Detective Bill Hall.
Greenburg was shot when he and Officer Asta Webster entered a side yard of a residence near 30th and Vermont streets at 2 a.m. in search of an armed robber, Hall said.
A dog ran toward the officers, and each fired a single shot. Webster missed the dog, and the bullet struck Greenburg in the vest. The suspect was seen escaping, and the dog, apparently not struck, ran away, Hall said.
