COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : OCC Women’s Team Finishes Third at Irvine Cross-Country Meet

Christy Melton of Orange Coast College finished fifth and teammate Mari Benavides eighth as the Pirates finished third Friday in the women’s cross-country Irvine Invitational at Irvine Regional Park.
Karen Talamantes of Mt. San Antonio won the 5,000-meter race in 18 minutes 21 seconds.
Sharette Garcia (18:27) of El Camino was second, Tracy Rose (18:33) of Long Beach third and Maria Paramo (18:36) of Oxnard fourth. Melton’s time was 18:37 and Benavides ran 18:46.
El Camino won the team title with 68 points. Mt. San Antonio (97) was second. OCC had 116 points.
Edgas Montes of Mt. SAC won the four-mile men’s race in 19:38, outsprinting Allan Garcia of Glendale by one second. Oscar Gonzales of Long Beach was third and the Vikings won with 72 points. El Camino (74) was second and Mt. San Antonio (107) was third.
