The anti-crime bill that has been given overwhelming approval in the House of Representatives includes an amendment effectively banning all state-run sports gambling operations.
The amendment, introduced by Rep. John Bryant (D-Texas), imposes criminal penalties on state officials who might administer such a game. Targeted was Oregon’s Sports Action lottery game.
The legislation must be reconciled with a crime bill passed earlier by the Senate before going to the President for his signature.
