WORLD IN BRIEF : RWANDA : Capital Quiet as Troops Face Rebels

The Rwandan capital, Kigali, was reported quiet as French, Belgian and Zairian troops arrived to help defend against rebel attack. Earlier, heavy gunfire was reported near the presidential palace, an army barracks and the airport. An Air France plane took out 139 people as Westerners sought to escape fighting in the small Central African nation. President Juvenal Habyarimana said his government had turned the tide against the rebel invasion.
