U.S. Arms Sales to Saudi Arabia
One of the principal reasons American and other non-Arabian forces find themselves involved in the Persian Gulf area is Saudi Arabia’s military impotence. The Saudis have tried to obtain military equipment from the United States over the years, but the Israeli lobby in Congress has always managed to keep these sales at fairly low levels.
One obvious way for the United States to extricate itself from the area is to see that the Saudis get sufficiently armed so they can assume their own defense. However, Congress apparently wants the American forces and the American taxpayer to continue bearing most of the burden because it just voted to cut in half a military aid proposal to beef up the Saudi Arabian armed forces. The Israeli lobby is at it again.
