COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UCLA Needs Overtime to Beat UC Irvine in Water Polo, 15-12

Led by Stefan Pollmann’s nine goals, the UCLA water polo team defeated UC Irvine, 15-12, in overtime in a nonconference game Tuesday at UCLA.
Irvine’s Mark Herman scored two goals late in regulation play--including one with 15 seconds remaining--to tie the score, 12-12, but the Anteaters were shut out in the two three-minute overtime periods.
UCLA’s Mike Wilmink scored 15 seconds into the first overtime and Javier Escobar and Pollmann each scored in the second overtime for the Bruins (15-0), the nation’s second-ranked team.
Herman led the seventh-ranked Anteaters (7-6) with four goals. Pablo Yrizar added three and Steve Froning two.
In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s volleyball:
Southern California College 3, Christ College Irvine 2--Krista Hoover and Heather Frewin each had 15 kills for host Southern California (14-13, 1-4 in conference) in a 15-10, 14-16, 15-12, 14-16, 15-7 victory. Christ College is 9-14, 0-5.
