Joe McIlvaine, former New York Met executive, was named general manager of the San Diego Padres.
McIlvaine resigned last week from the Mets. The Padres will pay him an estimated $1.6 million over five years.
He succeeds Jack McKeon, who resigned as manager in July to concentrate on his front office job and was then fired on Sept. 21 by Padre managing partner Tom Werner.
