A police chase ended in the death of an unidentified man Tuesday when the car he was driving crashed into a power pole at Balboa and Moraga avenues in Clairemont, police said.
The accident occurred at 3:40 a.m. when Officer Ken Ford, responding to reports of a car prowler, saw a sports car leave the area at high speed, police said. Ford pursued the car for a short distance before the car hit the power pole at a speed of about 85 m.p.h., police said.
The driver, in his mid-20s, suffered massive head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, the coroner’s office said. No other identification was available. The sports car had been stolen, police said.
