If field position becomes a factor in UCLA’s game against Washington State Saturday night in Pullman, Wash., the Cougars will have the advantage.
Jason Hanson leads the nation in punting with an average of 48.68 yards and had punts of 56 and 54 yards last Saturday in Washington State’s 41-31 victory over California at Pullman.
He has also made seven of 11 field-goal attempts this season, including kicks of 55, 53 and 50 yards.
Last year as a sophomore, he had the longest field goal in the nation, 58 yards, among five he made from 50 yards or more.
