A former teacher of handicapped students at Mission Beach School was convicted Thursday of one count of oral copulation involving a girl with Down’s syndrome.
Christian S. Tuffli, 56, was found not guilty of another oral copulation charge as well as three counts of rape of an incompetent person. These charges were related to the same victim.
Superior Court Judge William H. Kennedy ordered Tuffli taken into custody without bail pending an Oct. 26 sentencing hearing, where he faces a maximum term of three years in state prison.
Tuffli had worked at Mission Beach School, a special San Diego Unified School District location which treats only handicapped students, for 19 years until his arrest in May, 1989.
