Miami University of Ohio fired basketball coach Jerry Peirson for giving a player a false grade in a class.
Peirson gave Karlton Clayborne an “A” in his Basketball Theory course even though the player never attended class.
Athletic Director R.C. Johnson recommended that Peirson be suspended without pay for four months, removed from teaching duties and placed on permanent probation. But universitypresident Paul Pearson fired Peirson.
