SAN DIEGO — San Diego County will be going for its fourth consecutive victory tonight against other just-graduated high school players in the Southern California College Prep All-Star Football game at Mira Mesa High School.
The game matches 40 of the best local players against a team mostly made up of players from the Los Angeles City Section. Organizers allowed Los Angeles to draw from Southern Section teams within the city’s boundary to make the game more equitable.
Among local players scheduled to participate are Point Loma quarterback Danny White and his favorite receiver, teammate Brett Callan.
White was the county’s leading passer, completing 144 of 239 attempts for 2,522 yards and 21 touchdowns last year. He averaged 252.2 yards per game.
Callan was the county’s leading receiver with 59 receptions and a 17.5 yards-per-catch average.
White will go to Penn State, Callan to California.
Among the others competing for San Diego are Oceanside running back Terry Vaughn (Arizona), who led the county with 166.2 yards per game.
San Diego’s offense will be coached by Ramona’s Mel Galli; Southwest’s Carl Parrick coaches the defense. They will be joined by Point Loma’s Bill Settles and Lincoln’s Roy Reed.
Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for students with ID and $2 for children under 12.
