Synchronized Swim Pairs Tie for First

Fumiko Okuna and Mia Tachibana of Japan and Jill Savery and Lori McCoy of the United States tied for first in the preliminaries of the American Cup IV synchronized swim championships at Heritage Park in Irvine. Each team had a score of 92.80.
Stephanie and Isabelle Jobin (90.76) of Canada were third, Yumiko Tomomatsu and Junko Tanaka (90.24) of Japan were fourth, Erin Woodley and Janice Bremmer (89.56) of Canada were fifth and Khadija Cutcher and Stephanie Sogawa (88.88) of the United States were sixth.
Compulsory figures will be at 10 a.m. today and team competition will be at 7 p.m.
