Alva Nealy; Former Stroke Foundation Official

Alva Nealy, who was executive director of the United Stroke Foundation for 15 years, has died at her Studio City home. She was 77.
Mrs. Nealy died Tuesday of cancer, said her husband, William Nealy. She was born Alva Shaw on May 20, 1913, in Long Beach.
From the early 1970s to the late 1980s she was executive director of the United Stroke Foundation in Los Angeles, a resocialization program for stroke victims and families throughout Southern California. In 1988, she received proclamations from the city and county of Los Angeles honoring her work.
She held various jobs with Lockheed Corp. in Burbank from the early 1950s to the mid-1960s. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Cal State Northridge in 1965 and later taught adult education classes for the Los Angeles Unified School District.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years; and a stepdaughter, Barbara Bania of Cameron Park, Calif.
At her request, there will be no services. Pierce Brothers Valhalla Mortuary in North Hollywood handled the arrangements.
