July unemployment rates for 11 large states as reported today by the Labor Department: * California: 5.1%, up from 4.9% in June.
* Florida: 5.7%, down from 6.5%.
* Illinois: 6.7%, up from 6%.
* Massachusetts: 6.1%, up from 5.8%.
* Michigan: 7.4%, up from 7.3%.
* New Jersey: 4.8%, unchanged from June.
* New York: 5.3%, up from 5.1%.
* North Carolina: 4.6%, up from 3.7%.
* Ohio: 5.7%, up from 5.2%.
* Pennsylvania: 5%, up from 4.6%.
* Texas: 6.2%, up from 5.6%.
