Forward Johnny Newman joined the Charlotte Hornets when the New York Knicks decided not to match an offer sheet for the restricted free agent.
The Knicks had 15 days to match the offer for the 6-foot-7, 190-pound Newman, who averaged 12.9 points last season. They get no compensation for his loss.
The deal reportedly was worth $5 million for four years.
