An electrical worker has died from injuries he suffered last week in an explosion at a Chatsworth frozen-foods factory, and two others who were burned in the same accident remained hospitalized, a spokeswoman for the Sherman Oaks Community Hospital burn center said Saturday.
Keith Schaffer, 60, of Sylmar died Friday morning, the spokeswoman said. Jose Medrano, 39, of Northridge and Evaristo Taladera, 19, of Burbank were in critical condition Saturday at the same hospital.
The three men suffered second- and third-degree burns in an explosion Wednesday as they worked to repair a breaker in the main electrical panel at Chef America, 9601 Canoga Ave., authorities said.
A second explosion several hours later injured two Los Angeles Department of Water and Power workers as they tried to restore power to the factory. They were treated for burns at Northridge Hospital Medical Center but were not hospitalized.
The DWP was investigating the cause of the explosions.
