Israel, Soviet Union Sign Agreement on Trade

JERUSALEM — Israel and the Soviet Union agreed Friday to establish trade ties despite not having full diplomatic relations, Israeli officials said.
“We signed an agreement to establish economic relations. We will exchange official representatives in the form of trade offices in Tel Aviv and Moscow,” said Dan Gillerman, president of the Federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce.
He said Soviet officials are already in Tel Aviv to open an office of the Soviet Chamber of Commerce. Israeli officials will travel to Moscow next month, he said.
Israeli-Soviet ties have strengthened along with an influx of Soviet Jews, expected to reach nearly half a million by the end of 1992.
