CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : DAVIS : School Buys Ranch for $7.88 Million

UC Davis said it is expanding its campus with farmland for which it is paying $5,000 an acre. The 1,576 acres, known as Russell Ranch, are a mile and a half west of the campus. No state funds are involved in the $7.88 million purchase. The sellers are also throwing in 11.9 acres containing a family residence built in 1868 and several modern improvements including a swimming pool, cabana and tennis court.
