The city has distributed $63,000 in cultural grants, the largest going to the Newport Harbor Art Museum.
The museum received $15,000 from the Arts Commission, which is responsible for the yearly allocation of money to Newport area arts groups. Eight other fine-arts organizations also received grants, including the Orange County Philharmonic Society, Opera Pacific and the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum.
The award amounts were determined by the Newport Beach Arts Commission on the basis of the benefits to Newport Beach residents, according to a spokeswoman for the commission.
