AST Research Inc.: The Irvine-based computer company said it had net income of $35.1 million for the fiscal year ended June 30, contrasted with a net loss of $7.5 million the year before. Revenue was $533.8 million, up 17%. The company’s fourth quarter was especially strong; net income totaled $15.2 million, compared to $2.5 million for the year-ago quarter. AST said its stronger showing was in part because of increased sales of its higher margin Premium 386 and i486 personal computer products.
