Soviet hockey center Sergei Fedorov left the national team at Portland, Ore., and defected, according to several reports.

Turner Broadcasting, which is televising the Goodwill Games, said the Detroit Red Wings had confirmed the defection. WDIV-TV in Detroit also reported that Federov had defected and was headed for Detroit.

Fedorov, 20, was a draft choice of the Wings in 1989.
