Beckman Instruments Inc.: The Fullerton-based producer of automated systems and supplies used in biological laboratories said second-quarter net income fell 25% to $8.6 million, while revenue rose 1% to $202.9 million. Research and development funding in the quarter rose 21%, Beckman said, and this investment in new products reduced earnings.
