Jury selection starts today in the trial of Ramon Salcido, 29, the winery worker accused of killing seven people, including his wife and two of his daughters. Five hundred potential jurors will start arriving at the San Mateo County Courthouse, where the trial was moved because of extensive pre-trial news coverage in Sonoma County. “I don’t want any person on there with a bias against my client,” said Sonoma County Public Defender Marteen Miller. “I’m just looking for ordinary people who have common sense. . . ,” prosecutor Peter Bumerts said. A survey commissioned by the defense indicates that nine out of 10 people in San Mateo County who know about the killings believe Salcido is definitely or probably guilty.
