Passengers in a pickup truck fired at least five shots from a small caliber weapon at a police supervisor in an unmarked police car early Sunday at Chicano Park in South San Diego, police said.
Two or three people in a Nissan pickup truck fired at the officer, who was in the park to investigate an earlier shooting, Sgt. Fred England said. Neither the officer nor his passenger, a dispatcher, were injured in the gunfire that occurred at 3:47 a.m.
The pickup truck was later found at 17th and J streets, its interior burned, England said. Police are still investigating.
“It’s unusual to have an undercover unit shot at,” England said.
