I found your July 1 article on the projected story lines for the summer soaps interesting. I am not sure that it is always a character’s age that attracts viewers, but rather how well the character is written.
My daughter, 17, likes the “Santa Barbara” characters Craig and Kelly, who are in their mid-20s to early 30s, much more than the projected “hot” summer romance between Ric and Tawny.
I think the interest in characters has a lot to do with the way the character is written and the actors who portray them, rather than just their age.
A great couple on a soap will appeal to viewers of all ages.
