For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserym e n on what to do in the garden this week: * Rockrose, bush germander, lantanas, portulaca love the heat and make the garden beautiful with their blooms.

* Some California native plants like dry conditions, making them a nice landscape for water conservation.

* It’s not too late for a second crop of beans, radishes or corn.

* Consider bottlebrush, hibiscus, Trinidad or Brazilian flame bush for more masses of summer color in the heat.
