Late Astronaut’s Son Pleads for Mementos

HOUSTON — The son of the first American to walk in space is making a public appeal for the return of stolen mementos of his late father’s career as an astronaut, including cuff links, tie tacks, a gold bracelet and a medallion.
Edward H. White III discovered the items were missing when he returned home from a Colorado vacation. From $40,000 to $50,000 in jewelry and furs also were taken.
Edward H. White II space-walked in 1965. In 1967, he, Virgil I. (Gus) Grissom and Roger B. Chaffee were killed when fire swept their space capsule on the launch pad.
