Downey : Council Approves Hiring of 2 More Police Officers
- Share via
The Downey City Council has approved the hiring of two more police officers at a cost of about $100,000 a year.
The new positions, which were approved last week, are scheduled to be filled by September, Police Chief Clayton Mayes said.
Including the two new positions, the city will have 116 sworn officers. The new jobs will allow the Police Department to replace two officers who were transferred from the city’s Special Enforcement Team to its anti-gang detail, which was formed in 1988.
The four-officer Special Enforcement Team targets various crimes.
