Collins, Beschen Lose in Oceanside Surfing

Richie Collins of Newport Beach and Shane Beschen of San Clemente, the only Orange County surfers remaining in the Life’s A Beach surfing competition in Oceanside, were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Assn. of Surfing Professionals event Saturday.
Defending world champion Martin Potter of Great Britain rallied to defeat Collins, 89.3-81.5, and 1988 world champion Barton Lynch of Australia rallied to beat Beschen, 77-74.8.
Collins, however, advanced to the semifinals of the longboard competition, which begin at 8 a.m. today.
