SUMMER PREP BASKETBALL : Parks’ 30 Lead Marina Past Rolling Hills, 89-71

Center Cherokee Parks scored 30 points to lead Marina High School to an 89-71 victory over Rolling Hills Friday in the first round of the Servite summer boys’ basketball tournament.
Parks, who made 13 of 21 shots from the field and 4 of 6 from the free-throw line, had 13 rebounds and six blocked shots and scored 13 points in the first quarter.
In other first-round games, Long Beach Millikan defeated Servite, 86-53, Dominguez stopped Huntington Beach, 56-49, and Los Alamitos rolled past San Pasqual, 84-45.
In consolation games, Lakewood routed Loara, 106-70, and Western got past St. Anthony, 85-77. In a winners’ bracket quarterfinal, Long Beach Poly beat Woodbridge, 58-56.
In the Mater Dei summer boys’ basketball tournament at Mater Dei:
Bret McCorkle scored seven straight points late in the fourth quarter as Capistrano Valley held off Artesia, the state Division II champion, 68-54.
J.J. Ballesteros led all scorers with 21 points and Jason Janeski and DeJuan Matthews each had 18 to lead Mater Dei to a 114-49 victory over Fullerton.
In other first-round games, Santa Clara defeated Ocean View, 77-71, and Los Alamitos defeated Foothill, 70-55. In a second-round consolation game, Artesia defeated Ocean View, 78-63.
