I Want My MTV Video Award: The nominations are in for the 1990 MTV Video Music Awards. For best video of the year: Aerosmith, “Janie’s Got a Gun”; Don Henley, “The End of the Innocence”; Madonna, “Vogue,” and Sinead O’Connor, “Nothing Compares to U.” For best male video: Billy Idol, “Cradle of Love”; Don Henley, “The End of the Innocence”; MC Hammer, “U Can’t Touch This,” and Michael Penn, “No Myth.” Best female video contenders include Madonna, O’Connor, Alannah Myles, Paula Abdul and Michelle Shocked. The winners will be announced on a Sept. 6 MTV awards show hosted by Arsenio Hall with appearances by Janet Jackson, Aerosmith and Phil Collins.
