The 13-year-old all-star team from Eastview Little League in San Pedro will have a familiar look to it when it begins playoff action Tuesday in Lomita. Eleven of the 14 players on the Eastview Senior League Minor Division team were on last year’s 12-year-old team that advanced to the Little League World Series. That includes Victoria Brucker, the first girl to start in, get a hit in and pitch in a World Series game.
According to Eastview President Gary Miley, the all-stars must win a series of regional tournaments during the month of July to advance to the Minor Division World Series to be held in early August in Michigan.
The Los Angeles Heat will attempt to reschedule a fireworks show that was advertised, but did not take place at the conclusion of its American Professional Soccer League West match with the California Emperors Sunday. An advertisement placed by the Heat in the June 29 edition of The Times touted a “Fireworks Extravaganza” at West Torrance High.
According to Heat General Manager Jill Fracisco, the team found out after the advertisement had gone to press that it did not have approval for the show from the Torrance Unified School District. Fracisco said the Heat had to pay a $400 cancellation fee to a San Diego fireworks company.
Master K. S. Choi of San Pedro has been named coach of the United States National Team for the World Cup of Taekwondo in Madrid Sept. 28-30.
