ALBANY, N.Y. — New York lawmakers finished action Monday on a bill declaring “the emerald green Empire spring mineral water bottle of Saratoga shall be the official bottle of the state of New York.”
If Gov. Mario M. Cuomo signs the measure, the state bottle will join the state muffin (apple), state flower (rose), bird (bluebird), animal (beaver), fish (trout) and gem (garnet) among New York’s official symbols.
The “Empire” bottle was manufactured in the Upstate New York village of Congressville in the 1880s. It is a common collector’s item today, with a reported market value of $25 to $35.
