Slumlord Sentenced to Community Service

Landlord Devanand Sharma, recently convicted for slum conditions at a Westlake apartment building he owns, was sentenced Monday to perform community service, fined $3,000 and placed on probation.
A Municipal Court jury had found Sharma guilty of 23 criminal counts related to slum conditions at the building at 737 Westlake Ave. in Los Angeles. Problems included lack of heat, broken windows and vermin infestation.
