At least one motorist fell victim to a man impersonating a police officer Sunday night. Michael Ervin, 26, of San Diego, was arrested after police said he stole a squad car from the eastern district station on Aero Drive.
Sgt. Harold Hiskes and wife, Anne-Marie Hiskes, both off-duty officers, were northbound on Interstate 805 when they saw a non-uniformed officer they did not recognize making a traffic stop near Balboa Avenue about 9:30 p.m. They stopped their car at the next call box to notify the California Highway Patrol about a possible stolen police car. While they were on the phone, the imposter pulled behind their car, police said, where he was immediately arrested for auto theft and impersonating a police officer.
