An Anaheim man was being held in the Orange County Jail this morning after accidentally firing a shot through a motel wall that struck and slightly injured a sleeping guest, police said.
Dominic A. Burchfield, 26, was booked on suspicion of firing into an inhabited dwelling after the 7:44 p.m. Sunday incident at the Capri Motel in the 7800 block of Beach Boulevard in Buena Park. Bail was set at $10,000.
The victim, Olga O. Magallanes, 37, of Tucson, suffered a graze wound to her scalp and was treated and released at West Humana Hospital in Anaheim.
The shooting happened as Burchfield was cleaning his 9-millimeter pistol in one room of the motel and it accidentally discharged, said Buena Park police Sgt. Terry Branum. The bullet struck Magallanes--two rooms away--as she slept with her husband, Oscar, and their 13-year-old son, Oscar Jr., Branum said.
The family was in Buena Park on vacation. This morning, they had checked out of the motel.
