An 18-year-old Sepulveda man was fatally injured Thursday when a car he was a passenger in veered out of control and struck a fire hydrant and a utility pole in Sun Valley, Los Angeles police reported.
The identity of the victim was not released pending notification of his family.
Officer J. W. Hosford said the victim was a passenger in a car driven by Manuel DeJesus Carcamo, 18, of Burbank. For an unknown reason, the car went out of control about 12:45 a.m. at Lankershim Boulevard and Webb Avenue. Emergency workers used power tools to cut through the wreckage and free the men. The passenger was taken to Pacifica of the Valley Hospital in Sun Valley, where he was pronounced dead. Carcamo was reported in critical condition at Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills.
