PROVIDENCE, R.I. — David T. Roach, women’s swimming coach at the University of Tennessee for the past three years, today was named athletic director at Brown University.
Roach, 40, who coached the Brown swim teams from 1978 to 1986, replaces John Parry, who resigned in January after 11 years on the job.
“The thing that I found in eight years of coaching here at Brown is that the students are highly motivated academically and athletically, and that these two things can run hand in hand,” Roach said at a news conference on the Ivy League campus.
As athletic director at Brown, Roach will be responsible for hiring and supervising more than 100 employees, including 31 intercollegiate sports teams.
