WORLD IN BRIEF : CUBA : Prison Terms Asked for Dissident Group

Cuba’s state prosecutor is seeking prison terms of up to 12 years for a group of political dissidents accused of conspiracy and rebellion against the country’s Communist government, the Cuban news agency Prensa Latina said. A court in Havana reportedly heard evidence against seven members of the Democratic Integration Movement who were arrested at the end of 1989. The illegal group was charged with drawing up a program designed to change Cuba’s political system and constitution and introduce multi-party politics and a market economy.
