A former insurance agent who sold policies for companies he did not represent has been ordered to repay $14,000 to his former clients.
Frank Gonzales, 32, who owned and operated Consolidated Insurance Services in El Cajon, was placed on five years probation by San Diego Municipal Judge Frank Brown.
Since his guilty plea to grand theft on Jan. 10, Gonzales has since paid back $13,500 to his former clients.
On Wednesday, Brown ordered Gonzales to pay an additional $14,000 at a rate of $150 per month. Brown suspended a one-year jail sentence pending a review of Gonzales’ repayment progress in four months.
Gonzales can go to work--he is now working three jobs--and church, but other travel has to be approved by the probation department.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Denise McGuire asked Brown to sentence Gonzales to a year in County Jail, saying six victims are involved. Gonzales had no criminal record.

After that diagnosis, the elderly man could not get a company to issue him a life insurance policy, according to court documents.
