Two Los Angeles police officers, one a rookie on his first night of duty, were seriously injured early Sunday when their patrol car crashed into a power pole on Sepulveda Boulevard in Van Nuys, police said.
Eight-year Officer Russ Carr, 29, was listed in serious but stable condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center with a broken leg, broken ribs, internal bleeding and a concussion.
Officer Troy Thomas, the rookie, was listed in good condition with facial cuts, and chest and leg injuries.
The accident occurred at 6:45 a.m. at Sepulveda Boulevard and Saticoy Street.
The patrol car “went off the roadway, up over the curb and collided with a power pole,” Sgt. Larry Manion said. No other cars were involved.
Manion said the officers had been assigned a radio call but it was not clear if they were answering it at the time of the crash.
Carr, who was driving, is a training officer. Manion said both men were wearing seat belts when the crash occurred.
