ENVELOPE PLEASE: Carl St. Clair, newly appointed music director of the Pacific Symphony, is one of five finalists for the prestigious Seaver Conducting Award given every two years to young conductors. The winner, to be announced Saturday, will receive $150,000. St. Clair, 37, was an assistant conductor of the Boston Symphony when named music director in February. He starts here in October.
