ANAHEIM : New Utilities Chief Big on Conservation

The city has hired Edward K. Aghjayan, deputy city manager of Pasadena, to serve as general manager of Anaheim’s public utilities department.
Aghjayan, 49, who will start work July 30, said he plans to make water conservation a top priority, as he did successfully in Pasadena.
“I’m interested in being a role model for water conservation, so we can set an example for other cities,” he said.
Aghjayan was one of seven finalists for the department head post. He will oversee operations of the combined $220-million enterprise that serves more than 150,000 customers.
He comes to the city with more than 20 years of experience in utilities management and will be paid $124,000 annually. Aghjayan replaces Gordon Hoyt, who retired early this year after 26 years with the city.
