SALT LAKE CITY — The Mormon Tabernacle Choir will perform in the Soviet Union for the first time during a concert tour of Europe next summer, church officials announced.
The 13-concert tour will open in Frankfurt, West Germany, on June 10, 1991, and conclude with three concerts in the Soviet Union, two at the Kremlin in Moscow and one in Leningrad. The tour will also include the choir’s first appearances in Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia and Austria. The choir, whose 320 volunteer members participate without pay as a service to the church, has gained international renown through its radio, television and satellite broadcasts, recordings and numerous concert tours.
