Taft d. University, 15-8, 14-16, 15-7, 15-7--Senior outside hitter Cody Hein led Taft with 17 kills and Matt Davis had 16 kills, nine blocks and four digs as the Toreadors rolled in the City Section 4-A semifinals at University.
Setter Adam Friedman had five service aces in the first game.
“He served, bullets, BBs,” Coach Doug Magorien said. “But making it to finals takes a team effort, and the team really pulled together.
Consistent passing by Chris Furmanski and Jeff Wynne, who combined for 25 perfect passes, and a team-high 10 digs by Furmanski keyed the Taft offense.
Taft (14-1), will meet Chatsworth in the City 4-A final at Pepperdine on Friday night.
Royal d. Hart, 15-9, 15-2, 15-3--Kevin Hambly (12 kills, nine blocks) led Royal (17-0) in the second round of the Southern Section Division 2-A playoffs at Royal.
