A San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy was seriously wounded in a shoot-out with a forgery suspect who was then killed by the lawman and other officers, authorities said. Deputy Thomas Garcia, 39, of Victorville, was shot at least five times by the suspect, who was armed with a 9-millimeter semi-automatic handgun, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said. Garcia, a 17-year veteran of the department, was taken to Victor Valley Community Hospital and later transferred by a sheriff’s helicopter to San Bernardino County Medical Center for surgery. The shoot-out occurred after Garcia and another deputy responded to a report of a possible forgery suspect in a Bank of America branch, Bryant said.
